Reading Habits Tag

Something you may not know about me is that I love reading; I follow way too many book blogs and I have an ever growing “to read” list. So when I came across this tag it seemed like the perfect fit.

This tag is inspired by Ayse’s blog and her reading habits tag. I recently just starting following Ayse and I’ve fallen in love with her blog, she posts about lifestyle, travel, food and everything in-between. No matter what niche you’re into reading, you’ll always find something that’ll grab your attention on her blog.

I’m excited to answer all these intriguing questions so without further or due, lets jump into the tag!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Usually I spend most of my time when I’m home cuddled up with my dog in my bed, so that’s where you can find me when I’m reading! I love being curled up with a blanket, getting lost in a book.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

I honestly have way too many bookmarks for only using one at a time lol. Bookmarks are the kinda things you just can’t have enough of and I am definitely guilty of that.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter / a certain amount of pages?

Unlike a lot of people, I can stop in the middle of a chapter. When I read, I read until I either get distracted or I get tired so whenever one of those two things occurs I just finish whatever paragraph I’m reading, stick my book mark in, and close the book.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I don’t eat while I read, mainly because I can’t multitask and eat with one hand while reading and holding the book with the other (while also trying not to make a mess). If I do drink while I’m reading it’s usually a cup of something warm like coffee, or hot chocolate- I think it adds to the cozy feel of being curled up in bed with a book.

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

A little background noise on the TV doesn’t bother me, but for some reason music does. I can not, for the life of me, concentrate enough to read if there’s music on.

One book at a time or several at once?

I like to focus on one book at a time. I feel like if I had too many on the go then I would confuse myself and mix up story lines- and that’s just not how I want to enjoy reading. However, that being said, if I find that I start a book that I just can’t get into or that is lose interest in I don’t force myself to finish it. My motto: life’s too short to waste on books you don’t like!

Reading at home or everywhere?

I read at home, mainly because I’m terribly forgetful and knowing me I would lose my book if I took it out of the house. But also because I’m more comfortable and less distracted when I’m at home. Do you ever try to read but your mind is distracted so you aren’t really taking it in and then when you pick up the book again a couple hours later you have no idea what happened? That’s why I read at home. Plus when I’m out and about, I usually have my headphones popped in catching up on a Podcast.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I read silently, because the story is just for me. Also, if anyone in my household heard me reading out loud to myself they would think I’m nuts, and I partially think it’s odd to read out loud when there isn’t anyone else there to hear it. BUT HEY that’s just me and if you prefer to read out loud there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

When I’m done reading a brand new book, you can definitely tell it’s been well loved, bent, twisted and turned, weathered but still in tact. I love the feeling of a book in my hands and the smell, does anyone else talk about how great a book can smell? I’m constantly fiddling with the book as I’m reading it, and it is very well shown when I’m done with it.

Do you write in your books?

It’s funny that this question was included in the tag, because as of just recently I did start to write, under line, star, and highlight my books. I just think it makes the book even more personal to you and captures the lessons its teaching you.

That’s it for the tag questions, I hope all my fellow bookworms enjoyed this post, and I encourage you to participate in this tag!

  1. AHhh, I wish my dog (or even my cat) would cuddle with my while I read, but apparently I’m just not cool enough for them. I even try to deliberately sit near them when I start up a book, but they just look over and walk off.

I love your answers! This tag is the most fun.

  2. I never knew that some people read out loud to themselves, haha! I thought people just read out loud to others. That’s really interesting, lol. I too can only read one book at a time. I get them mixed up if I try to read more than one at once and I just don’t enjoy them as much!
