Top 5 Favourite Christmas Movies

Blogmas Day 5

I seriously underestimated how hard this Blogmas post was going to be to write. Narrowing down all my favourite Christmas movies to just five?! Add in that I’m an extremely indecisive person and rethought my choices 348973 times.

Nevertheless we are here, I narrowed it down, and now I’m gonna break down my top 5 favourite Christmas movies for you guys. Because lets face it, by now Christmas movies have taken over your tv channels, movie channels, and Netflix so why not make the most of it and check out these feel good flicks.

Home Alone | 1990

You can never go wrong with throwing on Home Alone. When Kevin gets left behind, shit gets real. Ever since I can remember this movie has always been on during the holidays, and for me it never gets old. You can’t help but to adore Kevin, he is full of charm and has the best humour. The movie was released in 1990 but it still has all the late 80’s vibes. The house that they used to film the movie is a huge house, but what really gets me is the decor! It’s such an old style throughout, you can really tell that it was decorated over 20 years ago and I live for it.  This movie will make you laugh, like really hard and will most definitely make it on your favourites list if it isn’t already!

The Santa Clause | 1994

Another 90’s movie, because well, the 90’s were the best. There’s something about this movie that just makes me want to believe in Santa Claus again, that’s how good it is. This movie puts a twist on who Santa really is, and is centred around the theme of Christmas Spirit. It’s a super heartwarming story featuring a Father and Son but it’s also an amazing family-friendly comedy. I’m a huge Tim Allen fan as well, so with him being the main character theres no surprise that this is one of my favourites!

The Grinch | 2000

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A CLASSIC. Or really, a remake of a classic. But man, was this ever my childhood. In the year 2000 I was three, so you can imagine how much my three year old self loved this musical, rhyming, colourful, Christmas-y movie. And in fact, I’m almost 22 and I think that I still love it like my three year old self did.

Elf | 2003

For the longest time I actually couldn’t stand this movie and I refused to watch it. Enter my girlfriend (who is obsessed with all things Christmas) and now it’s one my favourites. This one is great for the whole family, with humour that the kids and parents can both appreciate. Will Ferrell did an amazing job playing Buddy the Elf, he is truly a comedic genius.

Christmas with the Kranks | 2004

Last but not least, another Tim Allen Christmas movie (oops). Christmas with the Kranks isn’t you’re average Christmas movie, it seems like the complete opposite really because the Kranks are actually trying to boycott Christmas and its hilarious. Until they find out their daughter is coming home for Christmas, then shit gets real. And funnier.

Bonus: Mickey’s Christmas Carol | 1983

This was my favourite Christmas movie as a kid. I remember having it on VHS and watching it over and over and over again.

I think I adore Christmas movies because they are so feel-good, and because they get me into the Christmas spirit. I hope that while reading this you were able to discover a new Christmas flick you haven’t seen before!

  1. I love all of these!! Jim Carrey is totally the best as the Grinch for sure, he just makes it 1000x funnier. Home Alone is also fantastic, have you watched the 2nd one? And you can’t go wrong with Elf or Christmas with the Kranks! I think we are going to watch The Santa Claus soon. 😉
